What is a giclée print?
Giclée (pronounced jhee-clay) is the term coined for state-of-the-art fine art reproduction. The term means "to squirt" in French and comes from the fact that a giclée printer is basically an inkjet printer taken to the extreme. Giclées are printed with a microscopic dot pattern that allows for virtually continuous tonal printing. Using 10 different colored inks, we are able to capture a never-before-seen color range, resulting in the highest-quality print imaginable.
What is the difference between a limited edition and an open edition?
Limited editions mean that only a limited number of copies can be purchased. For example, in a limited edition of 30 copies, once all 30 are sold, they will no longer be available. All copies are numbered (e.g., 1/30) and signed by the artist. The exclusivity of a limited edition increases its value. Unlike limited editions, open editions allow for infinite reproductions. Because there is no limit to the number of copies, open editions are priced lower than limited editions.
